Universal Control1. Who we are
Universal Control (“the App”, “we”, “us”) is a TV remote-control application for Apple devices. This policy explains what information the App accesses, why, and your choices.
2. Information we do not collect
- We do not require you to create an account or provide your name, email, or phone number to use the App.
- We do not sell or rent your data to anyone.
- We do not use advertising trackers or sell device identifiers for advertising.
3. Information the App uses on your device
To control your TVs, the App stores the following locally on your device (and, where you enable it, in a private Apple App Group shared with the App’s own widgets and Siri actions):
- Paired devices — the name, model, local network address (IP) and any pairing token/credential your TV issues, so the App can reconnect.
- Your preferences — accent color, saved Activities/macros, and app settings.
This information never leaves your device except to communicate directly with your TVs on your own network.
4. Local network access
The App uses your local network to discover and send commands to TVs and streaming devices over your Wi-Fi. These communications go directly from your device to your TV. We do not route them through, or copy them to, any server operated by us.
5. Microphone & speech recognition
If you use voice control, the App requests microphone and speech-recognition permission to convert your spoken commands into remote actions. Speech is processed to recognize the command and is not stored by us or used for any other purpose. Speech recognition may be performed by Apple’s on-device or Apple-provided speech services, subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy.
6. Photos & media (casting)
If you cast media, the App accesses the specific photos or videos you choose in order to stream them to your TV over the local network. It does not upload your library to us or any third party.
7. Subscriptions & payments
Premium subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through your App Store account. We never receive or store your payment-card details. Apple may share aggregate, non-identifying purchase information with us through App Store Connect. See Terms of Use for subscription details.
8. Diagnostics
If enabled by Apple, anonymous crash and performance reports may be shared with us via Apple’s standard App Analytics. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you. You can disable sharing in iOS Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Analytics & Improvements.
9. Children’s privacy
The App is rated suitable for ages 4 and up and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. See our Age Rating page.
10. Your choices
- Revoke microphone, speech, local network or photo permissions anytime in iOS Settings.
- Delete the App to remove all locally stored data, including paired devices and settings.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions in iOS Settings ▸ your name ▸ Subscriptions.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “Last updated” date.
